The Great Science Cake Off “CIIC’s” off
CIIC researchers have helped the Birmingham Cancer Research UK Research Engagement Manager Debbie Ringham come up with a novel way to promote Cancer Research UK funded research.
The “Great Science Cake Off ” competition, which is being rolled out over the CRUK Centre network, will aim to find who can convey their research and clinical trial ideas most effectively, using the medium of cake !
Debbie, herself a cancer survivor, explained her thinking behind the event. “The contest is aimed at being a bit of fun, and a novel way of engaging people with our research. It’s often said that doing a science experiment is comparable to following a detailed recipe, so this is a great chance for our researchers to show us what they’re made of in the kitchen, as well as in their lab!”
Entrants are encouraged to bring in their science/clinical trial-themed cakes to the Birmingham CRUK Cancer Centre on Thursday 7th November, after which a Centre winner will be announced. Ultimately a national winning cake will be selected from the pool of CRUK Centre winners by CRUK Head Office.
So start planning your cancer immunology-themed cakes now !
